Another Whimsical Tunic

Hey folks !
Bonjour à tous !

I am on a roll right now.  I really like to make those tunics !   I had a special evening tonight with my girlfriends, with a chocolate theme.  We also had to wear "chocolate colours", i.e. "brown"... ugh.... not my favorite color of the spectrum... Not a whole lotta brown in this lady's closet...  So of course, I HAD to make something new !  I went to my favourite Value Village to pick up some raw material:

Very little fabric in this little ditty.  I also had to unpick 4 darts.
Cette blouse contient peu de tissu.  J'ai dû découdre 4 pinces.

I forgot to take the other side but there is a big leopard on the back !

That shirt was totally crinkled when it got out of the dryer. It also had some darts to unpick.

I thought I had some choice patterns on hand.  Deconstructing these garments for maximum fabric was quite an endeavour !  I think it took the same amount of time to deconstruct the blouses as to sew the tunic !  I wanted the tunic to be made from the same fabrics front and back,  I had JUST ENOUGH fabric for my size but for a bigger size I would have had to fiddle around a bit.  So I had to make 7 1/2 inches strips in those different patterns.  I used the same block pattern as my previous post.  I really enjoy this model.  Although I made it a tad smaller (size 8 instead of 10) but I had so increase the hips.  Even though I do not like the color "brown", I thought those colours and patterns were quite interesting.  Choosing  the sequence were a matter of the "quantity" of each fabric and the sizes of the pieces of the tunic.

So I started by cutting the strips in equal sizes and sewing them in a "squarish" shape.  Then, I put my pattern on top and cut it out:

You can see that I use pattern weights on a cutting mat and rotary cutter.  It is very efficient and quick and precise and none of those pesky nicks in the fabric like when I use scissors.  Although I need to change my blade...

So once I cut the pieces, I serge them all around to stop fraying.

So here is my result:
Alors voici le résultat:

I took the picture after my evening so it is a bit wrinkled....

And here it is on me:
Et sur moi:

I also picked up some chocolate coloured capri pants in my VV adventure !

Super confortable and don"t you love those pockets !!!
Super confo and ces poches sont fantastiques !!!

I think it is quite fetching and I love the result, even though I don't love brown...  I will wear it again !

We had a really fun time.
Nous avons eu une soirée très amusante.

Two of them were REALLY happy !!! ;)  Don't we make a cute "chocolate coloured" group !
Deux de nous étaient TRÈS heureuses !!! ;)  Ne faisons-nous pas un joli "groupe chocolat" !

And here is my contribution to the evening: Homemade cacao pasta !  The jury's still out on it...

Peace !

Claudia

    1. Hey Donna, you and me both !!! And it is so easy and fun to mix fabrics that seemingly have nothing to do together ! I feel like a magician sometimes ;) Let me know if you make some :)

    2. I'm already thinking in my mind of old blouses/tops I have that can be recycled and how to seam the blocks together so they're not too perfect.
