AWOL No More...

Hey there folks !  LOOOOONG time !
Bonjour à tous !  Ça fait un bail !!!!

I have been busy with life but I still have been sewing.  Unfortunately, I forgot to take some BEFORE pics...

J'ai été bien occupée avec ma vie mais je n'ai pas arrêté de coudre pour autant.  Malheureusement, j'ai oublié de prendre des photos des quelques vêtements originaux....

So the first piece is a tunic made with t-shirts:

A fairly simple tunic.  I rather like the end-result :).  I used my double-needle to finish the hems.  As you can see, I rigged a white "backdrop" in my living room so I can stop taking pictures in front of my window.  However, I still don't have the best lighting system.  Next on my list...

C'est une tunique toute simple mais j'aime bien le résultat.  J'ai fait mes ourlets avec une aiguille double.  Comme vous pouvez le voir, je me suis enfin organisé une toile blanche pour prendre des photos dans mon salon au lieu de les prendre devant une fenêtre.  Par contre, je n'ai pas encore le meilleur éclairage.  Prochain sur ma liste...

My next piece is a down coat that my friend gave me.  It was white and a size large.  For my petite frame, it was WAY too big...  But I really wanted to use it because it was a good quality.

Mon prochain morceau est un manteau de duvet qui m'a été donné par une copine.  Il était blanc et large.  BEAUCOUP trop grand pour mon petit corps...  Mais je voulais vraiment l'utiliser car il était de très bonne qualité.

As you can see, I am swimming in it but it is a really nice coat.  So I took in the sides (from the inside), cut the hood and shortened the collar.

Comme vous voyez, je nage dedans, mais c'est un bon manteau.  J'ai donc rapetissé les côtés (par l'intérieur) et enlevé le capuchon et le rapetissé collet.

I had seen something really cool a while ago: snowflakes on a winter coat !  I thought it was perfect for this coat.  Now how to make it ?   Machine embroidery ?  Nah, way too time consuming and too much effort.  Hand embroidery ?  Nope. Not for me.  Sharpie ?  Yeah !!!

J'avais vu quelque chose de vraiment chouette il y a plusieurs années: des flocons de neige sur un manteau d'hiver !  Je croyais que ça serait parfait pour ce manteau.  Maintenant, comment les faire ?  Broderie à la machine ?  Non, beaucoup trop de temps et d'effort.  Broderie à la main ?  Non plus, pas pour moi.  Dessiner au Sharpie ?  Oui, en plein dans mes cordes !!!

So 3 hours later, here is the result:

Very nice, if I do say so myself.  It always gets a couple of 180's and some questions, as to where I purchased it.  To which I proudly answer: "I doodled it myself :) ".

J'aime bien.  Les gens me posent toujours la question : "Où avez-vous acheté ce manteau ?".  Ce à quoi je réponds fièrement: "C'est moi qui l'ai gribouillé".

Last piece I made from a Vogue pattern I borrowed from my friend and some cool patterned stretchy spandex-y material.  The raw material:

So I have been inspired by the many installments of Project Runway running right now on TV and I will be making more unique reconstructed pieces in the near future.  I also plan on making a mini dressform to test my patterns on.

En ce moment, je suis très inspirée par les différentes versions de Project Runway (Projet Haute Couture) qui jouent en ce moment à la télévision et je vais faire d'autres morceaux uniques dans un avenir rapproché.  Je veux aussi me fabriquer un mini-mannequin pour tester mes patrons.

Aviator Jacket

Hey folks,
Bonjour à tous, 

I am still alive.  In fact, very alive.  I finished school on June 30th and have been organizing my house ever since.  I have not taken a lot of pictures of the whole process but I will post the final result.

Je suis encore en vie !  J'ai fini l'école le 30 juin et depuis, j'organise ma maison.  Je n'ai pas pris beaucoup de photos du processus mais je vais afficher le résultat final.

I have hired two women to help me organize my sewing room and they were so helpful !!!  Thank you Tackle Your Stuff !  Not only did they help me organize my stuff, but they also moved some heavy furniture.  They are amazing and I recommend them wholeheartedly.

J'ai engagé deux dames pour m'aider à organiser ma salle de couture et elles m'ont beaucoup aidée !!!  Merci Tackle Your Stuff.  Elles ne m'ont pas seulement aidée à organiser mes choses mais elles ont aussi déménagé des meubles lourds. Elles sont formidables et je les recommande chaudement.

Aujourd'hui, je vous présente une reconstruction qui date déjà...

A while ago, my family had our yearly Murder Mystery at my mom's.  It was happening in a circus in the 20's and my mom gave me the Aviator lady.  So I wanted a nice jacket and aviator cap.

Il y a quelque temps, ma famille a tenu son Meurtre et mystère annuel chez ma mère.  C'était un cirque des années 20 et ma mère m'a donné le rôle de l'aviatrice.  Je voulais donc un joli manteau d'aviateur avec un chapeau des années 20.

I started with this beauty, that I found at Value Village:

J'ai utilisé ce manteau du Village des valeurs:

As you can see, it is a TAD too big ;)

Vous voyez qu'il est légèrement trop grand ;)

I unpicked all seams and cut out a new coat into it.  It fit almost perfectly.  I had to fudge it a bit...

J'ai défait toutes les coutures et recoupé un nouveau manteau dans les morceaux. J'ai dû tricher un peu...

I was very happy with my little coat.  As you can see, the collar rolls a bit so I still have to stiffen it and install a zipper to be able to wear it this coming fall.

Je suis très heureuse de ce manteau.  Le col roule un peu alors je dois le stabiliser et installer une fermeture éclair mais je vais le porter l'automne prochain.

My cap is made from very STIFF vinyl... Not very comfortable...
Mon chapeau est fait de vinyle très RAIDE... Pas très confortable...

The crazy lady in can-can attire is my mom !  We had a blast and I love our tradition and hope we can have it a long time coming !

La madame en can-can, c'est ma mère !  On a eu beaucoup de plaisir et j'adore cette tradition et j'espère qu'on la continue plusieurs années !

A Cute Winter Hat From A Sweater

Hey people !

Bonjour à tous !

Hope you had a nice vacation and you were not too sick (with all the flu around...)

J'espère que vous avez eu de belles vacances, pas trop malade (avec la grippe qui court...)

Been very busy over here with work and life...

Ici, je suis très occupée avec le travail et la vie...

Here is a quick project I made last year and just thought I'd share it with you.

Voici un petit projet rapide que j'ai fait l'année dernière.

I took an ugly men's sweater (sorry, no before picture but you can imagine) and made this cute hat.

J'ai transformé un gilet d'homme (désolée, pas de photos avant) en ce joli chapeau d'hiver.

It is lined with a thin grey woolen sweater so it is very warm.  I made the pompoms with a fun gizmo from clover.

Je l'ai doublé avec un gilet de laine mince alors il est très chaud.  J'ai fait les pompons avec un petit bidule de clover.

I love it because it is whimsical and cooky like me.  I get smiles and 180's all the time !
Je l'adore parce qu'il est hors de l'ordinaire et un peu "foufou" comme moi.  Je reçoit des sourires partout où je le porte !

By the way, I made that coat two years ago.  Also very warm for our cold Canadian winters !  I'll post about it soon.

J'ai aussi fait ce manteau il y a deux ans.  Aussi très chaud pour nos hivers canadiens !  J'en ferai un article bientôt.

I have a lot of projects on the back burner so I should be able to post something soon.

J'ai plusieurs projets en attente alors je devrais être capable d'afficher bientôt.
