Bra fix, cats and frogs...

Hey folks !
Salut le monde !

Been on vacation for 4 days now and LOVING it !  I am reorganizing my entire living space, sparing NO-THING !

But, I do have time to make little things in the process.

The first thing is something that has been bothering me fo a long time.  It is the infamous bra showing in the round cleavage.  Not that I have a lot of cleavage but I don't like my bra to show.  I use very plain Jane bras but they are too wide in the cup and show through and I hate that.  See for yourself...

Looks like a lot of cleavage but it is an optical illusion...

So I decided to go chopping.  J'ai donc décidé de couper.

I started by tracing a line on the bra itself to sew on.

Then, I sewed with a short stitch length.  I did not have the right color thread so I sewed with transparent thread.  It was the first time I used it and I loved it !  After having sewed it, I cut the cup as close as possible without cutting the seam.  Here is the difference between the two cups after that step:

And look at the difference with clothes:

I finished the second cup  (!) and here is the result.

And voilà !!!  No more bra showing, aside from the strap...
Et voilà !!!  Plus de dépassement, à part les bretelles...

Had I realized it was so easy, I would have done it a LOT sooner.  In fact, I will go and chop ALL of my bras that way !

Now for another project, I made another sunglass case for a secretary at school (You can see the other ones here):

The cat embroidery took more than one hour !  Hope she likes it.

The last thing is a stupid thing that was driving me nuts with my calendar.  I buy cheap and flimsy calendars and when it is humid, they end up like this:

OK, it might not hide the dates but I DO like to see the frog !  So I thought of an article about unusual uses for everyday things.  (Sorry, it was one of those emails you get so I don't have the address.)  So I thought of using a very simple everyday object, that anybody with kids, or not, has in house:  a straw !

What, pray tell, will you do with a straw to fix runaway calendar sheets ?  Well, cut a slit in the entire straw and just slip the delinquent sheets inside to hold them together:

And here is the frog again !  Of course, I only had a PINK straw which does NOT show well on a pink wall...

So I guess I'll go back to my organizing.  By the way, I have found two INCREDIBLE blogs.  Sew Many Ways is unbelievable, especially her Tool Time Tuesday with creative and cheap (two of my favorite qualities) ways to use everyday objects.  The other one, Handmade by Stacy Vaughn, is full of VERY ORIGINAL stuff.  I encourage you guys to go have a look at these two blogs, especially if you are reorganizing your sewing rooms !

Peace

Claudia
